Employee will be assigned to the Division of Land Restoration, Office of Abandoned Mine Lands and Reclamation (AML&R) Construction Group in the Fairmont regional office. 


Primary Duties

  • Monitor and conduct field investigations of maintenance work on AML Reclamation projects performed by contractors.
  • Review plans and as-built documents to determine required maintenance activities.
  • Collect and review technical/scientific data related to environmental or natural resource quality.
  • Assist in preparing detailed findings, including data collection, analysis, and evaluation.
  • Photograph all assigned reclamation/maintenance sites and prepare a field verification form for each completed work directive.
  • Oversee construction activities on AML Reclamation sites as needed.
  • Assist in water treatment efforts for sites with active or passive treatment systems.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

  • Ability to draw final value conclusions and justify/document findings for negotiation purposes.
  • Skill in preparing, reviewing, and evaluating comprehensive, detailed field reports.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills for interacting with a wide range of individuals.
  • Ability to read and comprehend detailed plans and specifications for reclamation sites.


Notes:

  • Regular attendance is an essential part of this position.

  • The recommended candidate will be subject to a search of his or her Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) prior to being hired and annually thereafter. 
  • All new employees that are involved with Specific DEP programs subject to the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act (SMRCA) of 1977 must file prior to final appointment and annually thereafter, a Statement of Employment and Financial Interest (OSM 23).

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

OR

Substitution: Full-time or equivalent part-time paid technical or paraprofessional experience in the acquisition, preservation, protection and enhancement of environmental/natural resources may be substituted for the required training at a rate of one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of training.


Note: At the appointing agency’s discretion, competitive candidates may receive probationary appointment pending official verification of the qualifying training or certification. The qualifying training or certification must be verified before the employee may be certified permanent.
