Division Chiefs fill a crucial role within the Marina Fire Department and serves a dual role, fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of both a Battalion Chief and a Division Chief. The Battalion Chief duties mostly provide day to day operational functions that include, but are not limited too, responding to emergencies, providing Incident Command, requesting Mutual Aid and ensuring that our City is always ready to respond to an emergency along with daily risk assessment, accountability and communications. The Division Chief serves as the Duty Chief on a rotating basis and is subject to emergency call while on and off duty. The Division Chief also plans, supervises, and coordinates training activities, oversees project management, and assumes administrative duties as required. The Division Chief also provides highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Fire Chief. The Division Chief is also subject to staff rotational assignments that include Fire Marshal, Training/Operations, and EMS/Admin/Maintenance staff assignments.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceive direction from the Fire Chief. This classification exercises supervision of assigned, subordinate and support personnel of the department.

Knowledge of:
Education, and Experience
Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Training: State Fire Training: CA State Company Officer or Equivalent, CA State Chief Officer or Equivalent to be completed before completion of probation.
Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in fire prevention or fire fighting including two years in a supervisory role over support fire personnel.
License or Certificate:
Possession of a valid California Firefighter exempt driver’s license
· Possession of a valid Hazardous Materials on Scene Commander Certificate.
· Possession of a valid California State Fire or Chief Officer Certificate, (Chief Officer may be completed during probation.)
· Possession of a valid Emergency Medical Technician Certificate;
· Possession of a valid Health Care Provider CPR card;
· Incident Command System 100, 200, 300 & 400
Special Requirement: Must be able to pass a background investigation, which includes extensive DOJ criminal record check and an FBI check; Establish and maintain residency within 20 minutes normal driving time from the Marina Fire Department. Pass a medical examination, which includes a drug test. A non-smoker; must be U.S. citizen; must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
