We are currently hiring for a Public Services Technician in the Utilities Maintenance Division! Based on our career development plan, there are three difference position levels available based on experience. Below is a brief summary of each level and the requirements:Public Services Technician I

  • Starting Salary - $37,876.80
  • Requirements - Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School diploma or GED, possession of valid driver's license, and ability to  obtain a valid Class B license with Tanker endorsement within 9 months of employment
  • Some related experience in construction/plumbing industry is preferred
Public Services Technician II
  • Starting Salary - $41,745.60
  • Requirements - All requirements stated for Public Services Technician I with 2 years of experience as Public Services Technician I or similar position, completion of 14 continuing professional education credits in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater collection/distribution systems, and ability to obtain valid Class B license with Tanker endorsement within 180 days of employment
Public Services Technician III
  • Starting Salary - $43,846.40
  • Requirements - All requirements stated for Public Services Technician I and II with 2 years of experience as Public Services Technician II or similar position, completion of 20 continuing professional education credits in the operation, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater collection/distribution systems, and possession of a VDOT immediate work zone traffic control training and a flagger certification

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Repair and service (includes testing) fire hydrants
  • Locate underground utilities using maps, rods, and electronic equipment
  • Assist in preventative maintenance on water and sewer lines
  • Read water meters, entering data into portable handheld meter reading devices
  • Check meters for leaks, repairs as needed
  • Other duties assigned
