INTRODUCTION
The Road District Supervisor is a working supervisor who supervises road construction and maintenance crews in their assigned District and performs road construction and maintenance along with their crew members.
Progressively responsible experience in road maintenance and construction work; operating the full range of light, medium, and heavy equipment. Successful experience as a project leader or supervisor. Must possess a valid Oregon driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Requires thorough knowledge of the purpose, limitations, and maintenance standards of the full variety of medium and heavy road maintenance equipment and attachments. Knowledge of the practices and procedures used in road and pavement maintenance and construction.
Knowledge of safety rules to avoid injury to self and others or damage to equipment. Knowledge of traffic laws governing operation of motor vehicles and equipment on county roads.
Knowledge of weed and brush control chemicals and methods.
Knowledge of computer-based information systems and the use of computers for research and analysis.
Skill in the operation of the full variety of road maintenance equipment in a variety of terrains and weather conditions.
Skill in performing light equipment maintenance and limited repairs.
Skill in the operation of standard office equipment, including operation of a computer to utilize software programs (spreadsheets, databases, word processing, etc.)
Considerable skills with English language (composition, spelling, grammar) and standard arithmetic.
Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to supervise and direct the work of others to attain high quality work in an efficient manner.
Able to interpret policies, rules, and procedures in light of the particular circumstances at hand.
Able to utilize problem identification and resolution techniques.
Able to meet and deal courteously and effectively with other employees, federal/state/county/city representatives, contractors, vendors, advisory boards, community groups and the public.
Able to remain calm and use good judgment during confrontational or high-pressure situations that may arise.
QUALIFICATIONS

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work requires sustained lifting of 75 pounds and a high level of stamina for sustained, strenuous exertion. Work requires bending, climbing, crawling, stretching, pulling, pushing, standing, twisting and walking. There is common exposure to dust, pollen, poison oak, traffic, and fumes. There is frequent exposure to situations where there could be injury or loss of life due to moving equipment and/or traffic. The risk can be substantially controlled but not eliminated by safety precautions. Work is performed in adverse weather conditions such as storms, snow, rain, flooding, summer heat, etc. Extensive hours outside of normal work hours and extensive driving is required.
