This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of ClickHouse. We are currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer – Core Database CI Infrastructure in the United States.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of one of the fastest open-source OLAP databases in the world. You will contribute to building and optimizing the CI infrastructure that ensures the high performance, scalability, and reliability of mission-critical distributed systems. From writing and maintaining performance tests to debugging complex system-level issues, you'll be part of a global, remote-first team that thrives on collaboration, technical excellence, and a shared passion for open-source innovation. Expect to work on projects that directly impact customers and the wider developer community.

Accountabilities

  • Collaborate with Core Engineering teams to develop and scale the continuous integration (CI) infrastructure for the core database platform.
  • Design and implement performance tests to catch regressions, simulate real-world data workloads, and validate new features.
  • Analyze and optimize critical components such as distributed queries, relational operators, caching, and SIMD-level optimizations.
  • Actively support engineering and support teams by investigating and resolving complex performance issues from customers or community users.
  • Engage with the open-source community by reviewing pull requests, answering questions, and supporting contributors across forums and Slack channels.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to address advanced technical issues affecting database performance and stability.
  • Closely collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess how changes impact performance, security, and system reliability.


Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, with deep expertise in C++ and Linux/Unix environments.
  • Strong background in systems programming, performance engineering, and optimizing distributed systems.
  • Proven understanding of database internals or experience in other high-performance computing domains (e.g., real-time data, high-frequency trading).
  • Experience with debugging and profiling tools in production environments.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a distributed team setting and communicate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Open-source contribution experience and a collaborative mindset in peer reviews and community engagement.
  • Passion for efficiency, scalability, reliability, and clean code practices.
  • Bonus: Experience with ClickHouse, Kubernetes, network programming (TCP/IP), cloud infrastructure, and public technical speaking or blogging.

    • New York / San Francisco: $157,000—$232,000 USD
