This position is fully remote, with a preference for candidates located on the East Coast. We expect the successful candidate to uphold Smardt’s high standards of quality, reliability, and customer satisfaction.


What You’ll Be Responsible For:

The HR Generalist supports the HR Business Partner (HRBP) in delivering HR services to the Commercial Business Line, which includes Sales, Technical Support, Service, Project Management, and Customer Relations. The role oversees day-to-day HR support and performs 30–40% recruitment responsibility for commercial roles across the Americas. This position ensures consistent HR operations, compliance, employee experience, and talent acquisition for a business line that operates across multiple regions and requires a high level of professionalism and customer-facing support.



Key Responsibilities


Recruitment & Talent Acquisition (30–40%)

  • Manage recruiting for commercial roles across the Americas, including Sales, Customer Service, Technical Support, Service Technicians, and administrative positions.
  • Drive the full recruitment cycle: job posting, sourcing, screening, interviewing, and coordinating offers.
  • Maintain candidate pipelines for high-demand roles and create proactive sourcing strategies.
  • Coordinate background checks, reference checks, job offers, and onboarding tasks.
  • Work closely with the HRBP and hiring managers to understand workforce planning needs.
  • Prepare and update job descriptions and job postings aligned with business needs.



Employee Relations & HR Support

  • Act as the first point of contact for HR inquiries across the Commercial Business Line.
  • Provide guidance related to policies, benefits, compliance, and performance processes.
  • Support employee relations matters by gathering information, preparing documentation, and escalating issues appropriately.
  • Assist managers with coaching, documentation, and proper application of HR processes.
  • Ensure consistent application of HR policies across multiple countries and teams.



Onboarding, Training & Development Support

  • Coordinate onboarding for new hires, ensuring a cohesive commercial-oriented experience.
  • Support the HRBP with training logistics, including performance management tools, sales onboarding, and compliance training.
  • Track training completions, required certifications (e.g., safety for service techs), and create learning summaries.
  • Support probationary review processes and follow-up with managers.



HR Operations & Compliance

  • Maintain employee records and update HRIS for hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, and status changes.
  • Support U.S. and Canadian regulatory compliance (FLSA, state laws, CRA, provincial compliance).
  • Assist with benefits inquiries, enrollment processes, and Open Enrollment activities.
  • Maintain accurate tracking of employee leaves and ensure compliance with US federal/state and Canadian legislation.
  • Support compensation changes and ensure alignment with commercial pay structures.


HR Projects & Program Support

  • Support HRBP-led initiatives such as engagement activities, performance management cycles, talent reviews, and DEI programs.
  • Assist with communications, presentations, and materials for commercial leadership.
  • Help collect and analyze HR data (turnover, recruiting metrics, headcount changes, training metrics).
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance HR processes for commercial teams.



Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of HR experience, ideally in a commercial, sales-driven, or multi-site environment.
  • Experience with full-cycle recruitment required.
  • Strong understanding of HR practices and employment regulations in the U.S. (Canada experience is an asset).
  • Excellent communication, professionalism, and relationship-building skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Proficient with HRIS systems, ATS tools, and Microsoft Office.
