Position Summary
The Global Programs Team plays a key role in advancing the organization’s purpose to resource social movements working to advance food sovereignty, climate justice, and economic justice. The Program Manager for Latin America & Caribbean advances the regional strategy by leading aligned partnership development and grantmaking support. This position is responsible for identifying and building strong relationships with movements, stewarding partnerships, and managing strategic initiatives that strengthen the capacity, resilience, and solutions of movements in Latin America & Caribbean. Reporting to the Regional Director, Latin America & Caribbean, the Program Manager works in collaboration with the Learning team as well as the Grants Operations team, in addition to supporting Thousand Current’s communications and resource mobilization.
Key responsibilities of the Program Manager include, but are not limited to:
Resource and Support Movements (50%)
- Draw on a broad network of relationships, research, meetings, and gatherings to identify politically and values aligned movements advancing systems change in food sovereignty, climate justice and economic justice.
- Guided by Thousand Current’s purpose, the Latin American & Caribbean Regional Strategy, and current portfolio analysis, leverage desk research, the movement ecosystem, and a relational approach to understand the why, what, how and to what effect of prospective movement partners. Use sound analysis and discernment to inform and write up partnership recommendations.
- Steward partnerships by developing respectful relationships through regular e-mail communication, check-in calls, site visits, and review of reports and other materials, including social media. Managing translation and interpretation.
- Leverage financial, intellectual, and relational resources to support movement resilience through our movement strengthening and wrap around support for partners’ learning, conference travel, as well as emergency response.
- Provide leadership in managing a cohort of partners, working collaboratively in a time-bound initiative to advance movement solutions in key geographical areas. Facilitate co-creation, grantmaking, convenings, learning, and storytelling to amplify the learning and insights of the initiative.
- Work collaboratively with team members to plan and support partner convenings, peer learning, and connections to other movement partners as well as with other funders.
- Work closely with the Grants Operations team to manage partner information, grantmaking timelines, and processes.
Document, Learn and Share Insights (20%)
- Engage the work with an orientation of learning, curiosity, and inquiry. Support systematic documentation of knowledge and insights emerging from the work.
- Participate in ongoing learning, reflection, and analysis of Thousand Current’s partnership approach, partnership stewardship, and impact.
- Support the planning, curation, and documentation of learning among partners. Collaborate to make sense of emerging patterns and to synthesize insights.
- Produce occasional reports and analysis drawing lessons and insights from engaging partners and portfolio analyses.
- Stay abreast of issues related to food, climate, and economic justice, systems change, and movement building through reading, conferences, meetings, and engaging relationships with peers, both internally and externally.
Inform Thought Leadership and Resource Mobilization (20%)
- Contribute regional context analysis, content knowledge and insights as well as partner information to enrich donor proposals and reports.
- Collaborate on partner participation and engagement in Thousand Currents online and in-person events, including coordinating partner travel with the Operations Team.
- Facilitate flow of information between Programs and Communications to support strategic goals of raising Thousand Current’s profile as a thought leader and influencer.
- Represent Thousand Currents in meetings and gatherings to share insights, analysis and highlight partner stories and impact.
- Identify and assess opportunities to build strategic alliances with allies in Latin America & Caribbean
Participate in organization-wide
learning, cross-program partnership and administrative efficiency: 10%
- Show up fully for organizational activities, including staff meetings, retreats and training.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues as necessary for cross program activities and functions;
- Support organization-wide activities, such as the Thousand Currents Academy, annual events, fundraising drives, etc.
- Manage regular personal administration, including timely submission of receipts, reimbursement requests, scheduling, travel planning, filing HR paperwork etc.
- Participate in other duties, as assigned, including team and org-wide efforts to improve systems, processes, and ways of working.

- Proficiency in written and spoken English and Portuguese is required and proficiency in additional language(s), in particular French and Spanish is an asset.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Experience with and deep knowledge of movement organizing, food sovereignty, climate justice and economic justice issues in the Latin America & Caribbean region including:
- At least 5 years of experience in working with movements and movement support organizations in Latin America & Caribbean;
- Has worked and/or has deep knowledge in our thematic areas: food sovereignty, climate justice and economic justice;
- Bachelor’s in a relevant field or equivalent experience

Position Details, Compensation & Benefits
Location: Remote, Worldwide
Travel Requirement: 25%, able to travel to meetings nationally and internationally, and maintain a valid passport.
Reports to: Regional Director, Latin America & Caribbean
Supervises: Currently, no supervision required as part of this role
Compensation: $97,000 total annual compensation (USD)
Benefits:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands of this position are light with the expectation that the staff person can exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work. The position requires frequent computer use at a workstation. All staff must be able to travel to meetings at locations nationally and internationally and maintenance of a valid passport is required.
