Project Manager

The Project Manager must be able to manage large multi-faceted projects or multiple projects at the same time. The project manager organizes teams, develops plans, and facilitates project execution to achieve organizational goals. Successful project managers pay attention to detail, have excellent communication skills, raise issues and risks with transparency, are self-motivated, enjoy working closely with others, and are well organized. Viewed by peers, management, and other members of the organization as a leader who continually adds value across the organization. Project Managers are expected to, run a variety of projects (small to very large), with a range of budget ($50,000 to multi -million dollars) and team sizes, across different areas of the organization with ease. Ability to see big picture and convert strategies into workable initiatives is critical to success. Project managers occasionally must turn troubled projects from red to green as well as train and mentor other less-experienced Project Managers

Duties and Responsibilities:

• 35% - Project Management-General: Implement projects with a sense of urgency and due diligence regarding “on time and on budget”. Drive projects forward leading and modeling behaviors, focusing on collaboration, accuracy, and raising issues and risks. Be the first line of contact to project lead, taking action to mitigate risks or resolve critical issues. Follow corporate project life cycle and masterful meeting guidelines holding others accountable to those guidelines. Understand and follow Agile practices where appropriate. As a Project Manager, mentor peers (in and out of the PMO) around the aspects of project management, including leadership, methodology, tools, people skills, and organizational navigation. Collaborate with other team members the soft and hard skills required for successful planning, execution, and delivery. Individually or lead a small team in project health reviews, working to turn troubled projects around when assigned.
• 35% - Project Management-Governance: Provide effective organization and support to project teams, while completing required deliverables in a complete and accurate fashion. Secure acceptance of deliverables from appropriate leads. Be a steward and role model of project management and all levels of governance. Use Change Management guidelines to drive PMT and Drive Team approval regarding the use of resources (human and financial). Ensure projects are consistently closed within 45-60 days of go-live. Make continuous improvement a priority and apply these principles to project work.
• 30% - Project Management-Resourcing: Consistently maintain focus on project budget and resources throughout the project life and ensure budget reconciliation is completed monthly. Utilize the enterprise resourcing report to ensure that resources are appropriately captured and actuals are being tracked in attempt to drive better resource management capabilities. Engage business reengineering where appropriate to ensure solutions are enhancing existing processes. Ensure connections exist with Vendor Management and Legal as appropriate. Work seamlessly with vendors to ensure that projects move forward according to schedule. Work with the team to develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators and Cost-Benefit Analysis to foster savings and alignment of project deliverables to strategic goals. Ensure communication plans consider all stakeholders.

Skills:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (with proven ability to deliver reports and presentations); ability to influence colleagues to build relationships; guide and inspire team members to deliver project work on time on budget, in accordance with internal guidelines and governance.
• Ability to lead discussions with vague details or little direction with the expectation to identify ideal states and conduct gap analysis.
• Self-motivated, quick and assertive. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Extremely detailed oriented and organized. Ability to multi-task, and work under pressure in an ambiguous environment. Remain comfortable with change and complexity in dynamic environments. Ability to prioritize tasks and shift readily between the “big picture” and small-but-critical details, knowing when to concentrate on each. Demonstrated ability to balance people, process, and technology factors and analyze complex business relationships to develop appropriate solutions in a timely responsive nature.

Knowledge:

• Project management (waterfall and agile) process, industry-specific knowledge of insurance is a plus. Proficiencies in MS Office applications, MS Project, Visio, Adobe.
• Stays abreast of current project management, insurance industry trends, and technology through professional associations, trade journals, networking, and associated training and seminars.

Experience:

• Experience working on cross-functional teams strongly desired.
• Experience in progressive leadership roles in a corporate environment strongly preferred.
• Experience leading significant initiatives requiring change management leadership desired.

Education and Certifications:

• Bachelors degree preferred.
• 5 years of project management experience.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams required.
• Relevant professional certifications (PMP, SCRUM) preferred but not required.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands and fingers, talk, hear, and see. The employee must be able to work over 40 hours per week. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 pounds.

Other:

• Travel@@Amount (less than 1% of time). Minimal travel required between CBC locations with no overnight travel, except for potential continuing education requirements/courses.
