Job Title: Senior Government Accounting Specialist (QuickBooks Enterprise Expert)

Location: Hampton Roads, VA

Position Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Government Accounting Specialist with deep expertise in managing certified government accounting systems, specifically within QuickBooks Enterprise. The ideal candidate will possess a strong working knowledge of invoicing through the Wide Area Workflow (WAWF), budget forecasting, cost tracking, and compliance with DCAA standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and manage the company’s accounting system in full compliance with DCAA guidelines and government audit requirements.
  • Utilize QuickBooks Enterprise to manage and reconcile accounts, track job costs, create project-specific ledgers, and generate accurate financial reports for contract oversight.
  • Process and submit invoices through WAWF, ensuring accuracy in CLIN/SLIN structure, proper documentation, and contract compliance.
  • Prepare timely and accurate month-end closings, journal entries, indirect rate calculations, and project cost allocations.
  • Collaborate with program managers and contract administrators to develop budgets, track contract expenditures, and provide real-time project cost projections.
  • Ensure accounting practices align with FAR Part 31 cost principles and support DCAA audit readiness and incurred cost submissions.
  • Assist in internal financial audits, government audit responses, and cost accounting system reviews.
  • Implement internal controls for billing, timekeeping, procurement, and job cost tracking.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to leadership on cost variances and project profitability.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or MBA a plus.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in government contract accounting with at least 3 years working in QuickBooks Enterprise in a project-based environment.
  • In-depth understanding of WAWF invoicing, DCAA audit processes, and indirect cost allocation models.
  • Strong command of GAAP, FAR Part 31, and CAS.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and manage detailed budgets and cost projections across multiple government contracts.
  • Experience preparing for and supporting DCAA audits, ICE submissions, and DCMA reviews.
  • Strong Excel and data analysis skills; Deltek or Unanet experience is a bonus.
